NexStar 8SE Accessories: The Complete Guide
The NexStar 8SE is a 203mm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain on the same single-arm SE mount as the 6SE, with a longer 2032mm focal length and a heavier tube. The stock 25mm gives 81x, and the field is narrow, so accessory choices differ from the 6SE in a few important ways.
Where the 6SE and 8SE genuinely share an answer (power, StarSense, the wedge), the guides cover both. Where they don’t (eyepieces, the 2" diagonal question), the 8SE gets its own page.
| Aperture / focal length | 203mm / 2032mm (f/10) |
|---|---|
| Stock eyepiece(s) | 25mm (81x) |
| Useful magnification | ~29x to 406x (Celestron lists up to 480x); usually 250x or less in practice |
| Widest field with 1.25" eyepieces | 0.76° |

Where to start
- Power: the 8SE uses the same 12V SE mount electronics as the 6SE, and the heavier tube makes steady voltage even more important.
- Eyepieces: one step longer than you’d pick for a 6SE, and consider a 2" diagonal for wider views.
- Vibration: the 8SE tube is at the SE mount’s rated load, so vibration pads and careful balance matter at high power.
